Asadu: Detectives investigate police aides

LAGOS — Detectives investigating the
gruesome murder of Kwara State
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chinwike
Asadu, last Saturday in front of his
residence in Enugu, are reportedly
beaming their searchlight on his
police aides and consequently placed
them under close watch.

This is just as the family of the late
police boss had strongly debunked
insinuations that he wanted to be the
king of his community after
retirement.
Police sources said the action
followed disclosures from a member
of the slain police boss family that
one of the police aides sneaked out of
the family house immediately after
the Commissioner of Police drove out
of the compound with his lawyer
friend and two other orderlies.
The source intimated that one of the
aides was to accompany him, but he
declined only for him to later sneak
out of the house to an unknown
destination.
According to the source that sought
strict anonymity, the police aide came
from Ilorin with him and he had been
visiting Enugu with him.
Our sources said members of the
Commissioner’s family are not
comfortable with the way the police
aide refused to accompany his boss
while he was going out only for him
to surreptitiously sneak out of the
compound without telling anybody
where he went to. They said he only
resurfaced few minutes after the
killing of the police boss.
“Our suspicion around some of his
aides was strengthened by the fact
that the Commissioner drove out in
an unmarked car known only to those
he left in the house.
Meanwhile, members of his family
have expressed embarrassment over
media reports that Asadu who was
assassinated last Saturday was
involved in chieftaincy dispute in his
Ihene-Owerre Autonomous
Community.
One of his brothers, Ejike Asadu, who
spoke on the development, described
such reports as not only wicked, but
diversionary.
’’Our late brother was not involved in
any chieftaincy dispute and was not
interested in becoming the traditional
ruler of our community.
“In fact, the late Commissioner of
Police did not know those interested
in occupying the vacant stool. He was
not interested in such matters and
had never at any time indicated his
interest in any traditional stool.”
